The blood supply has dropped to dangerously low levels, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray answered the emergency call for donors, giving blood yesterday at our Center East Donor Center. NYBC Enterprises President and CEO Christopher D. Hillyer, MD, joined the Mayor and his wife as they rolled up their sleeves to help meet the urgent needs of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Blasio has used his daily COVID-19 briefings to encourage healthy people to donate blood due to widespread shortages. “So many New Yorkers are saying in this crisis, ‘What can I do? How can I help?’ One thing you can definitely do, the one thing that will help for sure, is to give blood in this moment of crisis,” de Blasio said at his May 17 briefing on the pandemic.
Check out photos of their visit below, and many thanks to Mayor de Blasio and his wife for their continued support of our lifesaving mission!
