We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of our friend, Heather McNamara. During her courageous battle with cancer, Heather often relied on blood transfusions and was a staunch advocate for blood donation. Our journey with Heather began when she was just 8 years old. Through a heartfelt video, she shared her story as a blood recipient, inspiring countless others to donate blood for patients like her. Heather quickly became a familiar face around New York, often speaking at NYBC events and sharing her story with local media partners.

She was a faithful partner to NYBC in our mission to save lives, and also carried out this mission through her work as an EMT. Heather was always the first to help someone in need and spent much of her time volunteering and giving back to her community. We will remember her as a difference maker, a lifesaver, and a dear friend to NYBC.

The McNamara family has asked community members to pay it forward by donating blood in her memory. The family will host a blood drive on June 19 at the Islip Terrace Fire Department from 12pm – 9pm. Appointments are strongly recommended. Sign up to donate.
