Performers and speakers will include local Drag Queens, a past Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestant, HIV positive community advocates and Project ACHIEVE representatives
In honor of HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, New York Blood Center’s Project ACHIEVE will be hosting its 18th Annual Vaccine-O-Licious event in partnership with the Columbia Research Unit and the NYC HIV Prevention Community Advisory Board. The event comes at an important time as Project ACHIEVE celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Vaccine-O-Licious is free for the public to attend and will take place at Queer Bar 3 Dollar Bill (260 Meserole, Brooklyn) from 6:00pm-8:30pm. The event will include a raffle for prizes such as a TV and $250 Sephora gift card as well as a drag competition featuring eight contestants, with the winner being Mx Vaccine-O-Licious 18. The organization will also be hosting a table with HIV education materials and sign-up opportunities for future studies.
New York Blood Center’s Project ACHIEVE (projectachieve.org) conducts HIV prevention research, including studies spanning all phases of HIV vaccine research as part of an international effort to find a preventive HIV vaccine. The program also conducts intervention trials to develop innovative ways to help participants reduce their risk of HIV infection.
Project ACHIEVE works in communities throughout the city to distribute HIV prevention materials, build acceptance and support for research, and engage participants for new studies. This program recognizes the health disparities that underserved and marginalized communities face and works towards bridging those gaps. Project ACHIEVE strives to reach communities most impacted by HIV and populations underrepresented in research including Black communities, Latinx communities, gay communities, transgender communities, youth and young adults, women of color, and older adults.
Co-sponsors of the event include Columbia Prevention Unit, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), HIV Stops with Me.Org, and Select Health VNS Health.
